Ever since opening AMRoC Fab Lab, we’ve wanted a vertical wall garden.  The slat walls of the formal retail store invite innovative design structures and bringing the outdoors in has always been an appealing idea.  It wasn’t until a meeting of like minds organized by Dr. Lindy Davidson of the University of South Florida Honors College, though, that the idea became a conceptual design and then an organized project, and now-  a Summer program for youth ages 12 and up!

The WellFed Minds Living Wall Summer Program is a collaborative project of the WellFed Community, run by Dhalia Bumbaca show at far left,  FCDI/AMRoC Fab Lab and the University of South Florida Honors College, under the direction of Megan Stowe, shown at far right in the photo.  WellFed Minds is designed to educate youth ages 12 and up on aquaponic systems.  Students in the program will work together to build an aquaponic vertical wall system for AMRoC Fab Lab that will serve as a living laboratory for related future programming, and learn about health, nutrition and fitness in the process.

The program will run from July 10 to August 7, Saturdays from 12:30pm to 3pm. Students will learn the basics of aquaponics, design, construction, tool use, and nutrition. Each session will feature a speaker, discussion, and lab and students will also create simple, fresh nutritious no-cook meals .

Program fee is $50. Registration is prioritized for University/Uptown Tampa area youth. Need-based fee waivers are available.  Class is limited to 12 participants, on a first registered, first admitted basis. Register by July 7th.

WellFed Minds is part of the AMRoC Fab Lab Smart City Summer Camp Series.
