Things have been hopping at AMRoC Fab Lab for – oh the last year or so – but we’re moving ahead on some great initiatives, adding staff, growing partnerships and developing new programs. One of those new initiatives is Fab Fridays at AMRoC, starting with an Electronics and Underwater Robotics program for middle and high school students running April 11, 15 and 25 from 6pm to 8pm.
Taught by Mike McGivern, a MITRE engineer with a passion for STEM education, this 6 hour course will help students dive into the world of basic electronics, learning to use breadboards, transistors, and op-amps while building their own custom night light and blinking light circuit. The program also includes an introduction to soldering and a simple motor control circuit.
Participants will get an exciting look into MATE ROV and underwater robotics, just in time for the Florida Regional MATE ROV Competition on May 3 at USF St. Pete, where participating students will join in a field trip to watch teams from across the state compete for a slot at the international competition!
Course fee of $50 covers instructional support and materials. Register early to secure your spot–class will be limited to 20 students. No previous electronics experience required.
