Opening to the public
The Tampa Bay Advanced Manufacturing & Robotics Center (AMRoC) Fab Lab, a program of the nonprofit Foundation for Community Driven Innovation (FCDI), is a public Fab Lab dedicated to building community capacity, empowering individuals through creative self-expression and bridging the manufacturing and industry talent gap through robust project-based engineering education and training.
At AMRoC, located in University Mall in Tampa, people of all ages will explore science, technology, engineering, manufacturing and related education and career training and certification opportunities, with access to tools like CNC machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, hand and power tools, and more. Youth in FIRST robotics teams and other STEM competition programs can design, build, practice and meet at AMRoC Fab Lab and local entrepreneurs can access rapid prototyping and micro-manufacturing.
Bridging the Manufacturing and Industry Talent Gap through Robust Project-Based Engineering Education and Training
Learning Through Competition
Students involved in FIRST, VEX, and other competitive STEM programs usually have so much fun that they don’t realize how much they are learning – which is the whole point. AMRoC Fab Lab will provide the resources needed by local FIRST teams and others, ages 6 through 18 to design, build, test and practice with their own competitive robots on regulation competition fields. They not only prepare for competition day, but they learn hands-on basic engineering skill sets along the way.
Manufacturing Skills Certifications
AMRoC Fab Lab will provide our local business community with the “best-of-the-best” talent, skilled in today’s advanced manufacturing and design processes. Working with a variety of local government, community agencies and corporate partners, AMRoC Fab Lab programming will include a variety of educational, and workforce training and certification opportunities across technical, industrial and manufacturing fields utilizing hands on, project based and competency focused teaching and learning programs.
Small Volume Production
AMRoC Fab Lab’s “fun while learning” atmosphere has a wonderful additional benefit to the community: real manufacturing provides the skills training environment that propels learners past the world of academic knowledge and into real world skills where they learn that sometimes what looks good on paper, or a computer screen, may not actually be the best choice in the physical world of production. AMRoC’s design includes onsite high quality limited volume manufacturing capabilitties.
