In celebration of the annual Soaring City Innovation Gathering, we’re hosting an Open House at AMRoC Fab Lab on October 27, from 4pm to 6pm(ish) and everyone is invited!

We’re opening our Open House with a Launch Party for the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame IGNITE initiative, on which AMROC Fab Lab is a partner with the Florida High Tech Corridor and Scoutlier.

Celebrate IGNITE!

IGNITE (Inspiring Generations of New Inventors Through Engagement) is an education outreach initiative that teaches K-12 students how to be creative problem solvers, strategic thinkers, and innovators. It is designed to give students the knowledge and tools they need to cultivate an innovation mindset—and build life and career skills for their future.   IGNITE brings together the collective power of the world-class innovators in the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame, as well as the vibrant innovation community throughout the State of Florida. Through hands-on activities, exciting classes, innovation challenges, mentoring, and more, IGNITE aims to help young innovators IGNITE their own spark within.

Meet Young Innovators Challenge Semi-finalists

Speaking of young innovators, we’ll also be celebrating the semi-finalists in our summer Young Innovators Challenge!  Our semi-finalists are:

  • Community Waste Management App, proposed by the Pinellas Park High School STEM Club
  • No Assembly Required, a Gig Economy business proposal for high school students, developed by a Tampa high schooler and
  • Autonomous Marine Vessel Collects Sensor Data to Correlate Presence of Red Tide, a Marine rover developed by students at Cambridge Christian School in Tampa

We’ll be sharing more news about these great students soon, who will be moving onto the next stage of the competition taking a youth entrepreneurship education program to learn how to refine their business model and ready for a finals pitch at the Florida State Fair in February.  But in the meantime, you can learn more about their projects at our Open House on the 27th.

See Robots and Drones!

Also on hand during our Open House will be robots of various sizes and designs, and drones, operated by students in our programs showcasing some of the competitions that have been underway throughout our month-long ROBOTICON event at University Mall.  You can even try driving some of them yourself!

Small Business Showcase

You can meet some of our Equity in Entrepreneurship program participants, including Stryke Esports, an AMRoC Entrepreneurship program incubator company based inside the Fab Lab, where you can enjoy some great gaming throughout the afternoon.

You can also check out our machine shop, where you can pick up some fun laser-cut swag and learn about the many tools and resources available to small businesses at AMRoC, including prototyping and fabrication services, and other small business support solutions.

We hope you’ll join us to celebrate Innovation in Action at AMRoC Fab Lab and then enjoy the rest of the Innovation Gathering underway upstairs and throughout the Mall.>
