Starting this summer, when the Advanced Manufacturing & Robotics Center (AMRoC) Fab Lab opens to the public, those ages 16 and up can participate in the first of a series of certification programs that will be offered at AMRoC.
Our first course starts June 8 with an Automotive Repair Certifications ASE G1 Interactive Test Prep Course, with instructor Pam Oakes of US Auto Training. The course will prepare students to earn their ASE G1 certification, for well paying jobs in the automotive industry. Some of the benefits of ASE certification include:
- Higher wage, larger paychecks
- In demand and more employable
- Improved career opportunities
- Certifications are your professional credentials
The fee for this class is $56 which includes the cost of the book. The test prep course starts June 8 and runs from 10AM to 1PM once a week on Saturdays for four (4) weeks. The last two class sessions actually run till 1:30 PM and include additional programming covering job preparation and career advancement resources from Hillsborough County Library System.

Meet Pam Oakes
Here’s a bit about the awesome Ms. Oakes: Pam is a 4th generation automotive technician, following in the steps of her father, grandfather and great-grandfather. She’s been an automotive shop owner for 20 years, and won two national shop awards, and dozens of regional and local shop awards and recognition. She’s an ASE Master technician with 30 years of professional experience that includes being an automotive sensor application engineer with Tier 1 automotive OE, holder of four automotive patents, an author (Car Care for the Clueless) with three national awards, and a syndicated radio show and podcast, as well as a television host with two national awards.
